Guided Tour
Flat, fast, shady and beautiful - a marathoner’s dream
run. Well, dreams do come true. Just look at this year’s
running route.
Esplanade Bridge
With the Esplanade Theatre on the Bay on the left, the Padang
on the right and the cool morning dew on your face, it’s
the only place in Singapore to begin your Race.
Marina Bay
As anticipated, over 10,000 people will head south straight
to the cool winds plying the expanse of Marina South. Great
for kite flying, insane seafood buffet feasts and mass soccer
games, the runner will have only one thing on her mind –
punching out eastwards towards Geylang, the land of Malay
gastronomic delights.
Grand Old Lady
The throng then channel towards the ‘Grand old lady’,
the National Stadium where “the beautiful game”
is played to screaming fans and the holding ground for our
much loved National Day Parade.
The route stays eastwards past through the sleepy Tanjung
Rhu area until the smell of salt air welcomes you to the East
Coast Park.
The Beach Run
Nothing beats a beachfront run, especially at the East Coast
Park. Shaded with tall Casuarinas and other local fauna, a
runner can look forward to supporters, cheering picnickers
and sleepy campers left and right of their course.
The cool breeze will pick up as the runners head towards the
East Coast Lagoon, where they loop back the same way, and
then westward to Fort Road.
Stadium Road to Marina Promenade
With the rising Sun behind, runners are will be on cruise
control, choosing towering skyscrapers as their own personal
direction marker. As they reach it, they’ll realize
the meaning of people power as the road devoid of cars are
replaced with even more cheer teams and supporters helping
you on your way.
The Padang
For the runner, this is the most spiritual part of the Race.
It’s the road where all physical struggle and fatigue
are exorcised. It’s the place where all doubts of ever
finishing the Race are replaced with indescribable euphoria
and even disbelief at the feat. Thirty-nine years ago, at
this site, the nation of Singapore was declared an independent
State marking an era of struggle to economic success. A fitting
place to welcome in the runner who dared to try…and
triumphed. |
