 Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2009 | - The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is jointly organized by the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) and the Singapore Athletic Association (SAA) referred to collectively as “The Organisers” in accordance with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) Rules & Regulations, sanctioned by SAA.
- The Participant who is a person who has entered to take part in the Marathon is deemed to have given written permission for the Organisers to collect, analyse and collate any personal information relating to that Participant as Organisers may in their sole discretion deem fit, including without any limitation for the following purposes:
For its programme, planning, data-processing, statistical or risk-analysis, research, fund-raising and/or, in the case of the SSC as part of the Organisers, any other purposes in furtherance of the functions or powers of SSC as provided for in the Singapore Sports Council Act (Chapter 305).
- The Organisers reserve the right to modify or substitute any of these rules and regulations of SCSM 2009 from time to time as they deem fit. If there is ambiguity in any of the provisions, the Organisers shall be the authority to interpret and in so doing, they will take into account the interests of all the affected participants. Any update on the rules and regulations of SCSM 2009 will be notified on the official website www.singaporemarathon.com.
- The Organisers reserve the right to cancel the SCSM 2009 at any time without prior notice to the Participant, in which case they will make effort to inform the Participant prior to the date of the event. If the SCSM 2009 has to be cancelled, there shall be no refund of fees paid unless the Organisers deem it to give a refund and the Organisers shall not be liable for any other loss or inconvenience caused.
- There will be no fee refund if the event is cancelled for reason of force majeure i.e. due to occurrence of incidents that are beyond the control of the Organisers and which renders it impossible or unsafe to hold the event.
- Completion of the official entry form, including online registration, confirms the Participant’s agreement to abide by the relevant rules and regulations of the IAAF, SCSM and the SAA.
- In consideration of the Participant’s use of the SCSM 2009’s Website, the Participant agrees to: (i) provide true, accurate, current and complete information about the Participant contained in any registration form (such information being the "Registration Data"); (ii) maintain the security of the Participant’s password and identification; and (iii) maintain and promptly update the Registration Data to keep it true, accurate, current and complete. The Organisers may contact the Participant from time to time by email. Any notice sent to the email address registered with the Organisers shall be deemed as received by the Participant.
If the Participant provides any information that is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, or the Organisers have grounds to suspect that such information is untrue, inaccurate, not current or incomplete, the Organisers may suspend or terminate the Participant’s registration and refuse any and all current or future use of the SCSM2009 ‘s Website (or any parts thereof).
- Whilst reasonable precaution will be taken by the Organisers to ensure the Participants’ safety, Participants take part at their own risk and the Organisers will not be responsible or held liable for any injury or death howsoever arising from training for or during participation in the race. Participants are strongly encouraged to consult their medical practitioner prior to registration and before the actual race day.
- The form on the reverse side of the Participants’ Bib Number must be completed in full and accurately. Participants must wear the assigned Bib Number on his/her chest. Participants not wearing a Bib Number will be taken off the course by security officers.
- To facilitate the re-opening of the marathon route to normal traffic, there will be an eight (8) hours cut-off time for the marathon category. Cut-off times will be set at specified checkpoints along the route to ensure the safety of runners who are unable to complete the race within the eight (8) hours. - A Participant must retire from the race immediately, if required to do so by any member of the official medical staff, Race Director, Referee and/or Security Officer.
- Pets, bicycles, in-line skates, prams, push carts, shoes with built-in or attached rollers and any other wheel-run objects are not allowed on the course other than official race and medical vehicles.
- After registration, there will be no fee refund for Participants who do not eventually take part in the SCSM 2009, for whatever reason.
- The Organisers reserve the right to use any photographs (including those of Participants), motion pictures, recordings, or any other media records of the SCSM 2009, for any legitimate purpose, including commercial advertising.
- The Organisers reserve the right to limit and/or refuse entries without assigning any reason.
- The Organisers reserve the right to cancel any race category
- The Organisers will not entertain nor be in any way responsible for any disputes arising from incomplete entry details.
- Race category and race entry are strictly non-transferable.
- Participants who commence before the actual start time of his/her Category entered for will be disqualified. (Please refer to start time of each race)
- Participants who do not start within 30 minutes from respective flag off (marathon, half-marathon & 10km) will be disqualified and for safety reason may not be allowed to start.
- Participants must be 18 years and above on the race day to participate in the Full Marathon (42.195km).
- Participants must be 17 years and above on the race day to participate in the Half Marathon (21.1km)
- Participants must be 14 years and above on the race day to participate in the 10km race.
- Participants below the age of 18 are required to seek parental/guardian consent and fill up the relevant indemnity and declaration forms as deemed necessary by the Organisers upon online registration or in-person registration, failing which, the Organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to any participant.
- Male Veteran: A Male Participant shall be considered a Male Veteran if his 40th birthday falls on/before the race day.
- Female Veteran: A Female Participant shall be considered a Female Veteran if her 35th birthday falls on/before the race day.
- There are two Race Divisions – Individual and Team.
For the Individual Division, there are six (6) categories:
(i) Full Marathon (42.195km)
(ii) Half Marathon (21.1km)
(iii) 10km – Men
(iv) 10km – Women
(v) 10km - Wheelchair Race
(vi) Kids Dash (750m). This is a non-competitive event.
- For the Team Division, each participating team member runs 10km. There are three (3) categories:
(i) Team - Men (First 4 men finishers to score. A team can register a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 6 men). The Men must start together with the 10km – Men Category.
(ii) Team - Women (First 4 women finishers to score. A team can register a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 6 women). The Women must start together with the 10km – Women Category.
(iii) Team - Mixed (First 4 finishers to score, including at least one Participant of the opposite gender. A team can register a minimum of 4 to a maximum of 6 Participants. The Men must start together with the 10km – Men Category. The Women must start together with the 10km – Women Category).
- Scoring System for the three categories in the Team Division:
The team with the lowest aggregate “GunTime” of the first 4 finishers will be declared the winner. For the Mixed Team category, at least one scoring participating team member must be of the opposite gender.
- Participants in the three Team categories are also eligible for prizes in the 10km – Men or 10km - Women Individual categories, where “GunTime” is considered.
- In case of a tie in any of the three Team categories:
The fastest “GunTime” between the slowest scoring participants in each team will determine the winner.
- Individual prizes for the Full Marathon (42.195km):
The “GunTime” will be considered to determine the winners for the following divisions:
(i) Men’s Open
(ii) Women’s Open
(iii) Singapore Men’s
(iv) Singapore Women’s
(v) Veteran Men’s (40 years old on/before the race day)
(vi) Veteran Women’s (35 years old on/before the race day)
[Only Singapore citizens qualify for divisions (iii) and (iv)]
- Each Participant is allowed only one prize-money award. A winning Participant may elect to receive an award in another category to which he/she is entitled to that which might offer a higher prize-money. Notwithstanding the Participant’s election, his/her finishing positions in each of the relevant categories do not change.
- Individual prizes for Half Marathon (21.1km):
The “GunTime” will be considered in determining the winner in each of the following divisions:
(i) Men
(ii) Women
- The “GunTime” will be considered in determining the winner of the following categories:
(i) Individual prizes for 10km – Men
(ii) Individual prizes for 10km – Women
(iii) Individual prizes for Wheelchair Race
- For prize winners or possible prize winners, appeals over disputes must be made on-the-spot, in a written format, within 30 minutes of the published results on the results notice board on-site or immediately after the prize presentation, whichever is earlier.
- For all other Participants, appeals over disputes regarding the results must be submitted in a written format, including electronic mail within 7 days of race day. The Organisers reserve the right not to entertain any appeal over disputes after 14 December 2009.
- All Participants shall collect their Race Entry Packs which include the Bib Number, timing chip, Event T-shirt, Event Handbook and other novelties at the Race Entry Pack Collection on 3, 4 or 5 December 2009. If participants are unable to collect their Race Entry Packs in person, they may empower a duly authorised representative on paper to collect on their behalf. No late collection will be entertained. Entry packs not collected after the last collection date will be deemed as unwanted, and the Organisers, shall be at liberty to dispose or re-distribute them accordingly.
- All Participants who successfully complete the race in their chosen race category will be awarded a Finisher’s medal, upon the presentation of their Bib Number to the respective officials.
- All Participants who successfully complete the Full Marathon Race Category (42.195km) may also receive an exclusive Finisher’s T-shirt upon the presentation of their Bib Number, sizes subject however to availability.
- All Finisher’s Medals & T-Shirts are to be collected on race day. No requests thereafter will be entertained.
- All Participants who successfully complete the race in their elected category will be awarded a Finisher’s Certificate by mail. This will be sent in January 2010. The Organisers are not responsible for any undelivered certificates owing to incorrect addresses given or lost mail.

 Distance Challenges | - Corporate Distance Challenge:
Open to all companies registered under the Companies Act and Business Registration Act. Participants must be employees of the same company. All decisions by the Organisers shall be final. Verification of eligibility must be provided upon request. The company with the longest combined aggregate distance completed by its staff wins the award.
Sponsors of the SCSM 2009 are eligible for the award, including the plaque and acknowledgement in a major newspaper. They are however, not eligible for the prizes.
- Non-Profit Organisation Distance Challenge:
Open to all non-profit organisations, embassies or High Commissions, statutory boards, educational institutions, clubs and societies. For large organisations such as a Ministry or conglomerate, Participants must be employees of the same unit, branch or chapter at which they are directly employed. All decisions by the Organisers shall be final. Verification of eligibility must be provided upon request. The non-profit organisation, or registered unit, branch or chapter of the same organisation with the longest combined aggregate distance by its staff and members wins the award.
- In order to qualify for the Distance Challenge, the companies, organisations and educational institutions have to sign up for the Bulk registration package. Employees from the respective organisations that have registered individually will not have their clocked distances factored into the Distance Challenge for their organisation.
- Participants can only register and compete for one company/organisation under the Corporate Distance Challenge.
- The companies, organisations and educational institutions have to provide a Company Coordinator to play the role of a liaison officer with the Organisers.
- The Company Coordinator is responsible for recruiting Participants, finalizing his/her company’s race entries, obtaining and distributing race day materials to their Participants.
- The Company Coordinator will be given an Administrative User ID and password for his/her company to access the registration system to key in the finalized Participants’ entries.
- No substitutions of Participants will be allowed once the companies, organisations or educational institutions’ entries have been submitted.
- Participants who register for the Corporate Distance Challenge, under their organisation’s bulk registration package are not entitled to any other discounts [Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) cardholder discount, past year Participants’ discount etc) on top of the agreed bulk registration fees.
- Only the Company Coordinator can retrieve the timing of those Participants registered under the Bulk Registration package. The Organisers reserve the right not to disclose any information on those companies' staff who registered individually.
- Teams are entitled to win prizes only within the chosen Team category. The Organisers’ decisions are final.

 Kids' Dash | - There will be four (4) different start-off times for the Kids Dash by reference to age:
(i) 3 years old and below*
(ii) Between 4 – 6 years old*
(iii) Between 7 – 9 years old*
(iv) Between 10 – 13 years old*
*Age as on/before the race day.
- Participants must be 13 years and below on the race day to participate in the Kids Dash.
- Participants of Kids Dash shall be entered by their parent/guardian who will fill up the relevant indemnity and declaration forms as deemed necessary by the Organisers upon online registration or in-person registration, failing which, the Organisers reserve the right to refuse entry to any participant.
- For children aged 6 years old and below, only one parent/guardian issued with an identification tag, will be allowed to accompany the child.
- The Kids Dash is non-competitive, therefore, no timing chip will be issued and no official timing will be recorded or provided.
- All Participants will be awarded a Finisher’s Certificate and a Finisher’s Medal.

 Charity Participants | - Run for a Cause participants who register for the “Run for a Cause” programme in support of the Event’s official charity partner in 2009, the Community Chest, are bound by the specific rules and regulations of the “Run for a Cause” programme. More details can be found on the official website www.singaporemarathon.com.
- The Organisers shall not be responsible or held liable for any activity that is not considered as legal committed either by the official charity partner, any organisations or Participants who register and raise funds for the “Run for a Cause” programme.
- All other charities or non-profit organisations have to seek the approval of the Organisers to take part in any fund-raising project using the Event as a platform but not in conjunction with the Event. Once granted approval, they will have to inform the Organisers of the nature of their fund-raising activities through the Event, and the total amount raised from these activities within one (1) month of 6 December 2009.
