5 June 2008 - Standard Chartered Bank renewed its title sponsorship of its Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008 (SCSM) for the seventh consecutive year. The Bank has nearly doubled the sponsorship fees from $1.05 million to S$2million in 2008. This is the largest sponsorship for a sporting event in Singapore that is opened for local community participation. Organisers are expecting 48,000 runners, a right-fold increase from 2002 when Standard Chartered became title sponsor, and more than 100,000 supporters.
Guests-of-Honour at the announcement were: Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Finance Minister; Mr Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports (MCYS); Mr Peter Sands, Group Chief Executive Standard Chartered PLC; and Mr Jaspal Bindra, CEO Asia, Standard Chartered Bank.
