Official Charity Partner
As the official charity partner of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2008, Community Chest helps raise funds for many of Singapore's social service organisations, so that they can focus on their primary responsibility of caring for and serving the less fortunate.
Community Chest, in partnership with individuals, businesses and organisations, has raised funds to meet the needs of the less fortunate since 1983. The less fortunate that Community Chest helps span the entire community across all ages and ethnicities. They include children with special needs, people with disabilities, families in distress and the destitute elderly. Your generous donations to Community Chest have helped them overcome their challenges and improve their lives.
To maximise the impact of your donations, Community Chest ensures that fund-raising costs are kept to a minimum. These costs have been kindly sponsored by Singapore Totalisator Board and Singapore Pools (Private) Limited, so that every dollar raised by Community Chest will be made available to social service programmes under its care.
To mark its seventh year, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon has chosen the following seven charity programmes to support for 2008:
AWWA TEACH ME
An integration support programme, AWWA TEACH ME aims to assists children and youth with special needs to gain admission to the mainstream pre-school/school system. These children and youth, who have physical disabilities, undergo a comprehensive programme that includes rehabilitative, educational, psychological and financial support. In addition, the programme reaches out to principals and teachers of mainstream schools to ensure that they understand the needs of their beneficiaries, so that they can adapt quickly to their new environment.
MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School
As a special school, MINDS Lee Kong Chian Gardens School provides special education for children (aged 4-18 years) with intellectual disabilities. In addition, the School provides a special programme to students with more severe disabilities, and emphasises basic living skills such as dressing, feeding and grooming skills as a starting point. Through these programmes, the School strives to maximise the potential and ability of its students, so that they can live as independently as possible.
The Singapore Cheshire Home Residential Care

This is to give residents (aged 16 – 55 years) the opportunity and incentive to live full, creative and purposeful lives as independently as possible. The home also provides short-term respite care for cases where families face emergencies of any kind.
APSN Centre for Adults

This is achieved through a training programme that includes sheltered workshop employment, therapy, financial and legal referral services and family support services. The centre also helps its beneficiaries who are suitable for open employment find jobs through its job placement programme.
HELP Family Service Centre
A family service centre that reaches out to single parent families, it assists the socially-disadvantaged and vulnerable families to cope with their challenges and supports their physical and emotional well-being. It also promotes greater awareness of the plight of single-parent families through public education.
